How To Create Your Own Fairytale

Happily Ever After- these three beautiful words are written at the end of every fairytale. We’ve all been brought up reading and listening to these beautiful stories. The simplicity of these anecdotes still fascinates me and reinforces the hope of having a perfect world and a blissful life but alas! Most of the time reality is quite different. As we grow up, we tend to give in to the chaos happening around, letting the fairytale vibe escape away. We all go through ups and downs in life and over the years I have realized that fairytales don’t spontaneously exist- but they can be Created.

Practically- a fairytale is just a state of mind. So while life goes on as dictated by the Universe and your destiny, you can script your story within its boundaries. With the strongest desire of living a fairytale life- these are my little attempts:

Living in a realistic bubble

When I was a kid, often I used to come back from school crying because my friends used to make fun of my obesity, and then my mother used to console me by saying, ‘You should be like a duck. If you splash water over a duck, its feathers won’t get wet and that is how it keeps swimming so gracefully, with its head held high!’ This statement got somehow stuck into my head and with time, it gets rooted more deeply.

Living a fairytale life actually means living in a world full of positivity which practically is not possible. Even if you wake up with a 100 percent positive attitude, by the time you step out of your door, half of it will have vanished and by the time you reach college or your office- traffic, road rage, that grumpy security guard- phew! All the happy vibe goes down the drain and your smile takes a backseat to give way to that little frown on your forehead!

You do not have the power to curb all the negativity in your surrounding but you do have the power to stop that energy from reaching you. You have the ability to create a bubble of peace and walk within it. Now there’s no book to follow here as to how you can keep your bubble intact, but I’ll share a few things which I follow-

When there’s too much traffic, I open Snapchat filters and start posing.
My playlist always has peppy or delightfully melodious numbers.
Cynics usually get a busy tone when they call me.

Living in a bubble does not mean that you should be unaware about reality; you just have to be immune to its negative effects!

Curious- not Anxious

Future- the ongoing suspense- or, can we put is as a series of climax till life exists! Most of us are curious about the future- waiting for your exam results, looking forward to that interview call, your friend’s reaction to your last text message, a client’s revert to your final negotiation- every moment you’re surrounded with uncertainty and all you want to know is what would happen next. From the last over of a cricket match to looking for your soulmate, life is full of uncertain outcomes!

Curiosity is a delicate emotion- it can either grow into excitement or into anxiety and usually it turns into the latter. Anxiety- feeling uneasy about the future- is quite a normal human emotion but of course a negative one. I won’t get into the physical and mental hazards of anxiety here, but the root cause of it. If you’re feeling anxious t could only be due to 2 things- either you don’t trust yourself completely or you lack faith in the Universe- or both! Walking onto the path of spirituality I’ve learnt to trust the process and my destiny. Being a creation of the Universe, I also staunchly believe in myself and that is what keeps me going!

Good night- sweet dreams!

I often hear people complaining about sleepless nights, or disturbed sleep. Insomnia is definitely on the rise these days and why not? We’re so used to taxing our brains over so many things, it tends to work overtime. Above all, those little taunts, unfinished work, words unsaid…a whirlwind of thoughts tend to linger around in your brain throughout the night, isn’t it? Whenever people complain to me about not being able to fall asleep at the right time, I just ask them this question, ‘Did you switch over from your office or party outfit into a night suit?’ The answer is always ‘Yes’. So my next question goes, ‘and why did you change your dress?’ Answer- ‘Obviously I cannot doze off in my denims or a heavy suit!’ So that’s it! When you take steps to make your body feel comfortable so that it can get its due rest, then why not do the same for your mind? Why keep holding on to those heavy thoughts that don’t allow it to rest?

It may not be easy to give up your anxiousness, anger and other leftovers from the day in a split second. But with practice, you will be able to unpack your mind and leave all the baggage aside, easily convincing yourself to let go or process all the unfinished work on the following day. “I’ll care of that tomorrow’- that’s exactly what you should tell yourself while unloading your brain and dozing off into a world of sweet dreams!

Above all, let your heart be abundant with love and gratitude, for these lay the foundation of pure happiness- from which stems the world of fairy-tales.

So this way, my efforts go on, getting stronger and more focused with each passing day and…...
“She’s gonna live happily ever after!”
