Turning A Year Older

Image
I recently celebrated my birthday. This is one occasion that I always look forward to, for it tends to reinforce the value of self-importance, reminding me to love myself unconditionally. So I actually celebrated my birth month- the entire span of August. The birthday, as always, was a day full of moments to cherish. While most of the people expressed their best wishes, few kept up with their friendly notoriety reminding me of yet another year deducted from my life span. Of course their sarcasm had a light-hearted vibe, but well, even it was meant to be taken at face-value I would have filtered it out of my memory. The ideal- why hold on to darkness when there’s so much light around! My Birthday Gift Loaded with new stuff; not only from my dear ones but from myself too. I believe in self-gifting; pampering oneself is necessary. So yes a lot of stuff was added to my already choked-up closet but the best self-gift this year was- a new skill. I’d been plann

Be Wise, Think Right

Image
Yayy! My blog turns three years old today. I had been a quiet year for my blog, after I shifted most of my thoughts and experiences to micro-blogging on my instagram account. But this year, I’ve decided to write more, and at length on the website. Happy Independence Day It’s Independence Day and I just recollected a line from the Constitution of India, one which I recited everyday during school. It said that every Indian has the freedom of thought, speech and expression. I’ve always picked up the first one as the biggest challenge of life- Freedom of Thought. With so much of societal conditioning, it takes a great deal of effort to break-free and let your mind wander into its depth and upto the heights of one’s potential. For those who dare to think beyond the boundaries of social norms and let their mind rule with all its wisdom, deserve a salute! Freedom of Thought Freedom of Thought according to me is a state of mind that nourishes your existence, he

OUT OF THE BOX

7 am- the alarm rings. 7.30 am- final alarm snooze. 8.30 am- breakfast. 10 am- office. This routine may sound quite familiar to most of you- maybe with slight changes in the time slots. Of course, we all have to work through every stage of life and falling into a routine is one of the best ways to have things sorted. Discipline is a virtue- waking up at a fixed time, organizing your tasks for the day, allocating time to each of your goals, staying away from junk food and other bad stuff- these rules are really needed. Had these boundaries not been there, we would all be in a crisis, isn’t it? Yet, today I’ll be sharing my thoughts on- The Downside of Routines! LIVING IN A BOX Before my trail of thoughts on living a routine life begins, here are some incidences that I would like to share: ·         The other day my gang of girlies asked one of our friends to turn up for a late evening walk by the lake and she refused because- she had “office next morning as usua

OBSESSIONS

Image
Polka dots- my latest obsession- hence the entirely dotted ensemble- I could paint the world with dots! From the fashion point of view, after making a strong comeback, polka prints seem to just be getting popular with every season. Trends aside, I personally love this print a lot and each time I visit a mall or browse online- this print instantly catches my attention- luring me to put the polka thing into my shopping bag or hit the ‘add to cart’ button. So after having bought a polka skirt, top and bag- I even wanted to add a polka dotted scarf, shirt, belt, polka sandals- well a lot more polka prettiness to my collection. The infinity of obsessions An obsession is the superlative of desires- endless- limitless! It’s like the loop of infinity- it makes you go on and on- the loop expanding with every step- claiming added space in your mind and more of your resources. From the psychological perspective- it is an irrational behavioral trait. Of course, shopping for a few

Be Your Own Valentine

Image
It’s the 14 th of February- the world is an adorable sight- full of pink and red hearts, teddy bears, flowers and lovey-dovey messages flooding social media! Valentine’s Day has come a long way- from being a celebration of Universal love to becoming the most romantic day of the year for couples. While the latter is just a narrow version of what this day was meant to be, for me it’s about celebrating the feeling of Love- towards oneself and towards humanity. It all beings with ‘Self’ “Fall in Love with someone who enjoys your madness, Not an Idiot who forces you to be normal.”   I read this line on the internet a long while ago and it’s been my mantra ever since. But it was only sometime back that the real message behind this quote dawned on me. I used to previously think that it is about looking for a partner and well, even friends with whom you can be yourself but these lines speak much more. In order to be yourself, you must first learn to accept yourse

Being A "Taxi" Again

Image
We need not look back every now and then; But once in a while, it’s a beautiful feeling to dwell in the past.. TAXI!!!!!!- Yes that’s exactly what my friends shouted out followed by a roar of laughter when they saw me dressed in a yellow and black outfit. Those were my days in the city of Bombay when the only cabs available were yellow and black Ambassadors and Fiats. That moment of being compared to a ‘taxi’ was quite embarrassing for a five year old girl. This petty incident had taken up a near-permanent space in my subconscious mind and while carrying along that same vibe of embarrassment I never wore a black and yellow ensemble ever! After all these years of working upon each of my fears this memory suddenly flashed across my eyes on a quiet Sunday noon and I instantly decided to get over this old embarrassment baggage by stepping out in a black and yellow outfit. Going back in time The ideal way to live life is to keep going ahead right? Yet, you’d wa
