OBSESSIONS

Polka dots- my latest obsession- hence the entirely dotted ensemble- I could paint the world with dots! From the fashion point of view, after making a strong comeback, polka prints seem to just be getting popular with every season. Trends aside, I personally love this print a lot and each time I visit a mall or browse online- this print instantly catches my attention- luring me to put the polka thing into my shopping bag or hit the ‘add to cart’ button. So after having bought a polka skirt, top and bag- I even wanted to add a polka dotted scarf, shirt, belt, polka sandals- well a lot more polka prettiness to my collection.

The infinity of obsessions

An obsession is the superlative of desires- endless- limitless! It’s like the loop of infinity- it makes you go on and on- the loop expanding with every step- claiming added space in your mind and more of your resources. From the psychological perspective- it is an irrational behavioral trait. Of course, shopping for a few similar things cannot be described as a mental disorder (so please don’t give up your cart); it’s all about keeping your mind in check- strong and balanced.

What are you obsessed with?

What’s your addiction- a goal- a thing- a habit- routine or a person? Does it take up most of your time, money and effort - or just more resources than what is required- taking your mind off from things that ought to be done- scrapping down your priority list? If yes then congratulations- you are quite one of us- for most of us are victims of addiction. Gym routines, Netflix, fixed meals, your crush- it could be anything- even something as mundane as having the flower vase or the pillow kept at the right place!
Having anger and annoyance outbursts, difficulty in meeting deadlines, forgetting important tasks and recurring mistakes may be some other hard-hitting consequences that you may face for being a maniac. Addictions are also mind gripers- they tend to narrow down your perspective and can even drastically bring down your energy levels. There’s a lot more to the downside of obsessions, but for now, I hope these are sufficient to tell you to be balanced and open up to the abundant vastness gifted to you!

But what’s wrong with having a closet full of polka dots?

Nothing is wrong! It’s just a closet after all not a person. But just imagine if my closet were a person, it would have shouted - “How dare you stuff me with the same things. I’m bored” Jokes apart, putting a check on repeated details only makes space for newer and prettier stuff. And thankfully I didn’t any add more polka to my closet other than these three things- picking up variety of gorgeousness instead.

No matter how much I still love polka dots, after having successfully kept my obsession in check (despite being a shopaholic), I happily patted myself- deserve that, isn’t it?
