Navratri Wardrobe Ideas- Go Contemporary!

Cheers! The festive season is just round the corner! The groovy nine nights of Navratri is one of the most happening festivals in Gujarat. Colorful flares, oxidized jewelry and those lovely embellished dupattas- the market is full of amazing ethnic stuff these days. Every year, even if I don’t want to shop, I make it a point to walk through these colourful markets to take in the beauty and excitement surround this wonderful season.

Heavy chaniya cholis with silver and funky jewelry is the usual dress code followed during this time. But style is all about being different and most important- being You. So I tried some wardrobe variations that would be apt for Navratri as well as blend with my preference for simplicity.

The outfit that is shown in the pictures is a black cotton trouser and crop top coordinate. I draped a colorful dupatta over my shoulders and held it in place with the help of a stretchable waist-belt. I pulled out the outer edges of the dupatta so that my hand movements would not be obstructed and to get that contemporary slanting hem-line. Overall, it looked like a colorful tunic over trousers. There- my festive dress was ready!

For accessories, I usually prefer golden and colorful jewelry. So I ditched the regular oxidized ones and picked up some golden accessories with colorful stones from my collection . It’s not necessary to have matching earrings and necklaces and hand jewelry, you can mix and match to create interesting ensembles. You can even experiment by using your jewelry differently. I used one earring as maang-tika and the other one from the pair as a ring. Finally, added golden chunky heels from Tic Tac Toe to complete my glam-festive look!

Since the Navratri celebrations begin after dusk, you can opt for smokey eyes like I’ve done in the pictures. But go light with the foundation or just use a primer and seal it well with translucent powder to avoid a dripping base after few hours of dancing.

For creating such looks, you can even opt for bright and colorful palazzo and crop-top or skirt and crop-top coordinates. But make sure you use a stretchable waist-belt and not leather or beaded belts for they won’t give a good grip to the dupatta.

I hope you liked my contemporary Navratri look. Like I always say, wear what makes you happy, for that is what makes you look beautiful!

Enjoy the festive season!

Love,
Bhavs
