Hunting Food the Retro Way!
Hello everyone! This being my first post of 2018, I would
like to wish you all a very Happy New Year. For me, writing and blogging is a
breather and therefore I do not believe in forced posts surrounding any
festival or celebrations like a change of calendar!
As an expression of sincere gratitude, I would like to thank
all those who take time out of their busy schedules to read my blogs and I feel
extremely delighted when people discuss any of my posts with me. Continuing my
series of thoughts and opinions in 2018 and well, fashion and styling being a part
of it, I would like to share details about an amazing event which I attended at
the beginning of this year.
One of the coolest ways of beginning the New Year is a Food
Hunt party and that too with a retro dress code! I was recently invited to meet
the blogger community of Ahmedabad at a fun event organized by the Malaysian
Palm Oil Council, which is non-profit organization that educates people about
the uses and benefits of Palm Oil.
Palm oil is obtained from the fruit of oil palm trees and is
semi solid at room temperature. Highly resistant to oxidation, it is ideal for
deep frying. We all somehow use palm oil because it is an ingredient of some
widely consumed snacks, medicines and cosmetics. A lot more information was
shared by Dr. Bhavna Shah from MPOC.
Well I won’t start teaching you about Palm oil in detail, although it has a lot of benefits and I would leave you to Google that. However, one interesting fact caught my attention, was that why, is Palm oil, not widely used for cooking in Indian households. In the 1980s, following a shortage of oil due to drought, the government of India had to import oil. Procuring Malaysian palm oil was the best choice given the lower logistic expenses and as a public service gesture, the healthy oil found its way into Indian households at subsidized prices through Ration shops. The not-so-appealing image of Ration shops combined with endless queues at these economy stores made Palm oil a forbidden product for urban households. Funny how a little out of place detail can so drastically change the future of a healthy product!
Coming back to the event, we had to shuttle between restaurants following a set of clues and had an array of competitions
starting from a written quiz on palm oil (yes I bluffed there), followed by blind
food tasting (it was a Mexican Frankie with salsa), salad making competition
and finally an ice-cream race! The dessert was delicious (vanilla ice-cream
with Nutella and chocolate), but I would have loved it more if I would be
allowed to have it at my own pace!
These were some pictures from the event. Talking about my
wardrobe, well it was a retro theme so I picked up a bell-sleeved ensemble with
a matching scarf and bandana. And yes, tinted shades!
Looking forward to share a lot more ideas this year!
Love,
